by Émile Senart | 1882 | 56,574 words

This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 89.67

ये ते पुत्रक धर्मा जातिं च जरां च वीतिवर्तेन्ति ।
तां प्रापुणाहि क्षिप्रं इति राहुलं अपि सो अवच ॥ ६७ ॥

ye te putraka dharmā jātiṃ ca jarāṃ ca vītivartenti |
tāṃ prāpuṇāhi kṣipraṃ iti rāhulaṃ api so avaca || 67 ||

“Quickly attain those states which are beyond birth and old age.” Thus did he speak to Rahula. (67)
