This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 17.48

अंशुकसुवेष्टितशिरा अष्ट सहस्रा महेश्वरवराणां ।
ब्राह्मणवेषधाराणां अभिगच्छि पुरं कपिलवस्तु ॥ ४८ ॥

aṃśukasuveṣṭitaśirā aṣṭa sahasrā maheśvaravarāṇāṃ |
brāhmaṇaveṣadhārāṇāṃ abhigacchi puraṃ kapilavastu || 48 ||

With their persons arrayed in fine cloth, eight thousand of these great lords, disguised as brahmans, went to the city of Kapilavastu. (48)
