The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

यन्न पित्रा न वा मात्रा न चापि सुकृतैः कृतम् ।
श्रेयस्तद्वः परिज्ञातमिदमाशु करिष्यति ॥ २७ ॥

yanna pitrā na vā mātrā na cāpi sukṛtaiḥ kṛtam |
śreyastadvaḥ parijñātamidamāśu kariṣyati || 27 ||

The knowledge of his sastra, is calculated to do you more good, than you can derive from the tender care of a father or mother; or the efficacy of your pious actions.
