The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 7.103.9

जीवधर्मो विशिष्टश्चेत्तादृशस्तं नरः कथम् ।
मिथ्या देशान्तरमृते पिशाचत्वं न पश्यति ॥ ९ ॥

jīvadharmo viśiṣṭaścettādṛśastaṃ naraḥ katham |
mithyā deśāntaramṛte piśācatvaṃ na paśyati || 9 ||

Should it be a misconception connate with the mind, to see the apparitions of departed friends; tell me then, why don't you see the ghosts of friends that are dead in a distant country, but of such only as die before your eyes.
