The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 7.37.55

इच्छाक्षुरिकया विद्धे हृदि शूलं प्रवर्तते ।
जयन्ति यत्र नैतानि मणिमन्त्रौषधानि च ॥ ५५ ॥

icchākṣurikayā viddhe hṛdi śūlaṃ pravartate |
jayanti yatra naitāni maṇimantrauṣadhāni ca || 55 ||

When the sharp knife of keen desire pierces the heart, it produces the sorely painful sores of sorrow and grief, which defy the remedies of mantras, minerals and all sorts of medicament.
