The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

तपो नाम कियन्मात्रदुःखक्षयकरं भवेत् ।
क्षयातिशयनिर्मुक्तं यत्सुखं समतामयम् ॥ ३७ ॥

tapo nāma kiyanmātraduḥkhakṣayakaraṃ bhavet |
kṣayātiśayanirmuktaṃ yatsukhaṃ samatāmayam || 37 ||

All austerities and mortifications, serve but to procure a short lived cessation of pain; but the happiness which is wholly free from its decay, is to be found only in one's equanimity and indifference under all circumstances of life.
