The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

जनयन्ती परं दाहं परामृष्टाङ्गिका सती ।
विनाशमेव धत्तेऽन्तर्दीपलेखेव कज्जलम् ॥ ५ ॥

janayantī paraṃ dāhaṃ parāmṛṣṭāṅgikā satī |
vināśameva dhatte'ntardīpalekheva kajjalam || 5 ||

Fortune like a lamp both burns and blackens its possessor, until it is extinguished by its own inflammation.
