Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. दुर्योधन उवाच ।
न भेतव्यं महाराज न शोच्या भवता वयम् ।
समर्थाः स्म परान्राजन्विजेतुं समरे विभो ॥ १ ॥

na bhetavyaṃ mahārāja na śocyā bhavatā vayam |
samarthāḥ sma parānrājanvijetuṃ samare vibho || 1 ||
