Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. शुश्रूषायां रताः शूद्रास्तथा वर्णत्रयस्य च ।
एष धर्मः कृतयुगे त्रेतायां द्वापरे तथा ।
पश्चिमे युगकाले च यः स ते संप्रकीर्तितः ॥ १३ ॥

eṣa dharmaḥ kṛtayuge tretāyāṃ dvāpare tathā |
