Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. नाडायनी चेन्द्रसेना यथैव वश्या नित्यं मुद्गलस्याजमीढ ।
तथा शान्ता ऋश्यशृङ्गं वनस्थं प्रीत्या युक्ता पर्यचरन्नरेन्द्र ॥ २४ ॥

nāḍāyanī cendrasenā yathaiva vaśyā nityaṃ mudgalasyājamīḍha |
tathā śāntā ṛśyaśṛṅgaṃ vanasthaṃ prītyā yuktā paryacarannarendra || 24 ||
