Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. वंशभोज्यमिदं राज्यं मार्गितव्यं यथा तथा ।
येन तेनाप्युपायेन वृद्धानामिति शासनम् ॥ ९ ॥

vaṃśabhojyamidaṃ rājyaṃ mārgitavyaṃ yathā tathā |
yena tenāpyupāyena vṛddhānāmiti śāsanam || 9 ||
