Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. त्वयाहं हिंसितो यस्मात्तस्मात्त्वामप्यसंशयम् ।
द्वयोर्नृशंसकर्तारमवशं काममोहितम् ।
जीवितान्तकरो भाव एवमेवागमिष्यति ॥ २५ ॥
