Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. वसव ऊचुः ।
प्रतीपस्य सुतो राजा शंतनुर्नाम धार्मिकः ।
भविता मानुषे लोके स नः कर्ता भविष्यति ॥ १६ ॥

vasava ūcuḥ |
pratīpasya suto rājā śaṃtanurnāma dhārmikaḥ |
bhavitā mānuṣe loke sa naḥ kartā bhaviṣyati || 16 ||
