Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. कृतघ्नोऽयं नृशंसोऽयं यथास्य जनकस्तथा ।
यः पाण्डवीं श्रियं त्यक्त्वा गतोऽद्य यमसादनम् ॥ २२ ॥

kṛtaghno'yaṃ nṛśaṃso'yaṃ yathāsya janakastathā |
yaḥ pāṇḍavīṃ śriyaṃ tyaktvā gato'dya yamasādanam || 22 ||
