Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. ततः प्रीतो महादेवः सर्वलोकेश्वरः प्रभुः ।
शक्ररूपं स कृत्वा तु सर्वैर्देवगणैर्वृतः ।
सहस्राक्षस्तदा भूत्वा वज्रपाणिर्महायशाः ॥ ८८ ॥

śakrarūpaṃ sa kṛtvā tu sarvairdevagaṇairvṛtaḥ |
