Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. इत्येवमुक्त्वा विरराम शल्यो दुर्योधनः शोकपरीतचेताः ।
हा कर्ण हा कर्ण इति ब्रुवाण आर्तो विसंज्ञो भृशमश्रुनेत्रः ॥ ३२ ॥

ityevamuktvā virarāma śalyo duryodhanaḥ śokaparītacetāḥ |
hā karṇa hā karṇa iti bruvāṇa ārto visaṃjño bhṛśamaśrunetraḥ || 32 ||
