Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. प्रहृष्टवित्रस्तविषण्णविस्मृतास्तथापरे शोकगता इवाभवन् ।
परे त्वदीयाश्च परस्परेण यथा यथैषां प्रकृतिस्तथाभवन् ॥ ४ ॥

prahṛṣṭavitrastaviṣaṇṇavismṛtāstathāpare śokagatā ivābhavan |
pare tvadīyāśca paraspareṇa yathā yathaiṣāṃ prakṛtistathābhavan || 4 ||
