Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. व्रात्यानां दाशमीयानां कृतेऽप्यशुभकर्मणाम् ।
इति पाञ्चनदं धर्ममवमेने पितामहः ।
स्वधर्मस्थेषु वर्णेषु सोऽप्येतं नाभिपूजयेत् ॥ ६६ ॥

vrātyānāṃ dāśamīyānāṃ kṛte'pyaśubhakarmaṇām |
iti pāñcanadaṃ dharmamavamene pitāmahaḥ |
svadharmastheṣu varṇeṣu so'pyetaṃ nābhipūjayet || 66 ||
