Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. This portion also contains the Bhagavad-Gita. Alternative titles: Mahābhārata (महाभारत).

को हि जीवितमन्विच्छन्प्रतीपं पाण्डवं व्रजेत् ।
भीमं भीमायुधं क्रुद्धं साक्षात्कालमिव स्थितम् ॥ २१ ॥

ko hi jīvitamanvicchanpratīpaṃ pāṇḍavaṃ vrajet |
bhīmaṃ bhīmāyudhaṃ kruddhaṃ sākṣātkālamiva sthitam || 21 ||
