Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. समन्ताच्छङ्खनिनदं पाण्डुसेनाकरोत्तदा ।
शत्रुसेनाध्वनिं श्रुत्वा तावका ह्यपि नानदन् ।
गाण्डीवं प्राक्षिपत्पार्थः कृष्णोऽप्यब्जमवादयत् ॥ ३१ ॥

śatrusenādhvaniṃ śrutvā tāvakā hyapi nānadan |
