The Sanskrit edition of the Apastamba Sulba-sutra with the commentaries of Kapardin, Karavinda and Sundararaja. The Sulbasutras are considered Vedic appendices and deals with the ancient Indian science of Mathematics and Geometry, by instructing the construction of fire-altars, among others. vyatyāsaṃ cinuyād yāvataḥ prastārāṃścikīrṣet || ĀpŚus_13.18 ||
upādhāne yathāsūtramadhyardhā upadhāya pūrvārdhe saptadaśeṣṭakā akṣṇayā chindyāt dvāvar dhau / yadi dīrghāśvet pādā uttarasyāṃ rītyāṃ nevaṣṭakāḥ chindyāt yathā prācīḥ prapādāḥ yathā dakṣiṇasyāmaṣṭau tathaiva prācīrekādvidhā / tatra tathaiva pūrṇaḥ prastāraḥ / aparasminprastāre paścādātmanyaṣṭādaśeṣṭakāḥ karaṇe chindyāt / dve dve iṣṭake dvidhākaraṇenaiva / yadi dīrghāḥ pādāḥ pūrvasyāṃ rītyāṃ naveṣṭakā bhindyāt / yathā vā udīcyāḥśroṇyā dve dvetsaroḥ paścādevāgrataḥ pāśamadhyer'dhāḥ pādāśvodīcyaḥ / evaṃ prastāro dviśataḥ / tatra ślokā bhavanti ----
mitāstribhistilairūnā caturbhiś ca śatena ca /
droṇasyaiṣātsarormātrā tasya triguṇutaiva sā //
pādā ardhāś ca bhedāsyuḥ karaṇāni vibhāvasau /
droṇākhye tu smaśāne ca caturaśre havirbhuji //
prastāre prathame pādā yatra syustatra nottare /
dvāvardhau prathamastāre catasra stūttare stare //
nidhāya cottare stāre adhyardhatvavipūrvake /
adhyardhā yatra tatra syuḥ pādā dīrghā yadi tvatha //
prācyasyuḥ prathame stāre udīcyastūttare stare /
abhitaḥ pādamadhyardhā rītayasapta cottare //

tasyatsarornirhāraḥ samudāyāt pṛthak karaṇaṃ pucchena pucchapradeśena bhavet /
sa ukto nirhāraḥ caturaśrāccaturaśraṃ nijihīrṣanniti /
caturaśrasyātmanaḥ karaṇī śatatrayamekādaśāṅgulayaḥ ṣaḍviṃśatitilāś ca /
tsarostutryadhikaṃ śatamaṅkulayaḥ ekatriṃśattilāś ca //
tasyadroṇasya karaṇī daśakī ṣaḍviṃśatirahgulayaḥ tilonāḥ /
dvādaśabhīgīyānāṃ karaṇī ekataḥṣaḍviṃśatiraṅgulayaḥ tilonāḥ anyatraikonacatvāriṃśadaṅgulayaḥ adhyardhatilonāḥ dvitīyaṃ karaṇaṃ pādeṣṭakā dvādaśabhāgīyānāmeva /
cakārādardheṣṭakāś ca /
tābhirvināsaṅkhyāpūraṇāśakteḥ uktañca śulbāntare pādeṣṭakā ardheṣṭakāś ceti prathamakaraṇamakṣṇayā bhindyāt //
sāpādeṣṭakā athavā dvādaśabhāgā pārśvamānikā /

tiryakmānikā pādeṣṭakā //
ātmani pūrvabhāge dvādaśeṣṭakāḥ pratīcīrupadadhāti /
tsarvarge catasraḥ /
śroṇyoḥ pratyekañcatasraḥ /
evaṃ caturviṃśati radhyardhāḥ //
śiṣṭamagnikṣetraṃ dvādaśabhāgīyābhiḥ pracchādayet pucche caturiṣṭake dve rītyau dvayoḥ purastār pucchāpya ya viśayarūpaikāḥ caturiṣṭakāś ca / tasyāḥ purastāddiśyekā / atmani dvādaśeṣṭakāḥ udīcyonavarītayaḥ / ekaviṃśati śataṃ caturaśrāḥ / caturviṃśatiradhyardhāḥ / uttarasminpārśva navacaturaśrā udhṛtya ṣaṭtriṃśataṃ dīrghāḥ pādāḥ pratīcīrupadadhyāt /
dakṣiṇasmin pārśveca navoddhṛtyaṣṭtriṃśataṃpādāḥ /
ṣūrvasyāṃ diśi dvādhaśabhāgīyānāmupāntye uddhṛtyadveddve cārde upadadhyāt /
akṣṇayāpādāśvet pūrvārdhe'ṣṭādaśacaturaśrā udhṛtyadvisaptatipādāḥ dve iṣṭake uddhṛtya dve dve cārdhe /
dviśataḥ eṣa prastāraḥ //
āsmani dakṣiṇatodvādaśa /
tathaivottarataḥ /
pucchapārśvayoścatasraścatasraḥ /
prācyorītayaḥ dvātriṃśat //
pucche catasraścaturaśrā ātmani dvādaśeṣṭakāḥ prācyonavarītayaḥ / tādvādaśaśatam / paścādātmani / daśacaturaśrā uddhṛtya dvātriṃśatamakṣṇayāpādā upadadhyāt / catasraśvārvāḥ dīrghāśvet pādāḥ pūrvasyāṃ rītyāṃ naveṣṭakā uddhṛtya ṣaṭatriṃśataṃ pādā utīcya upadadhyāt / paścādātmanyaṣṭādaśa caturaśrāḥ navapādā utīcīrupadhāya tāsāṃ purastādabhito dvipādāḥ saptārdhāḥ upadhāyatāsāṃ purastādaṣṭādaśārdā upadhāyatāsāṃ purastānnavapādā upadadhyāt / dviśata eṣaprastāraḥ /
pucchamivātmano vahirbhūtaṃ paścānminuyādityarthaḥ ta6 caturaśradroṇacit dvādhaśatriśatāṅgulenāṣṭhatilonena samacaturaśraḥ tasya paścānmadhyadeśe karaṇītṛtīyenatsarusamacaturaśram /

ātmanyudīcyo dvādaśa rītayaḥ / atrāparasyāṃ dakṣiṇādhyardhāyā udaktisro navamyaḥ prācyaḥ / tato'ṣṭau pādyāḥ / tatastisro navamyaḥ / tato dvādaśī tatastisro navamyaḥ / tato'ṣṭau pādyāḥ tatastisro navamyaḥ / tatodvādaśī / tatastisro navamyaḥ / tato'dhyardhā / evaṃ pūrvā rītiḥ / dviśataḥ prastāraḥ /
atha parimaṇḍalasya droṇaciteḥ prakāro vakṣyate /
ṣaṭsaptatiśatā ṅgulaśtrayastilono veṇurubhayatāśchidraḥ / madhyeśaṅkuṃ nihatya tasmin veṇośchidraṃ pratimucya chidrāntareṇa parimaṇlaṃ parilikhet / madhyaśaṅkoḥ paścādaṣṭaṣaṣṭiśatāṅgule satiladvaye śaṅkuḥ / tasya paścātsaruḥ / samacaraśraṃ tiladvayonacatuḥśatāṅgulaṃ kuryāt / maṇḍalamadhyaśaṅkoḥ paścāccatuḥśatāṅgule tilatrayone śaṅkaṃ nihatya tasmin veṇochidraṃ pratimucyānyena cchidreṇatsaruṇo dakṣiṇāparakoṇādārabhya uttarāparakoṇādālikhet, yathātsarvagraṃ pradhyākāraṃ bhavati / maṇḍalabhramaṇetsarupurvānter'dhe yāvaddhriyate tāvatpaścādāgacchati / tato maṇjalamadhye pūrvavaccaturaśraṃ navacatvāriṃśad dviśatāṅgulamaṣṭatilonamavadadhyāt / tasya karaṇyā dvādaśeneṣṭakāḥ ekaviṃśatyaṅgulā navītalonāḥ caturaśramadhye catuśvatvāriṃśacchatamiṣṭakāḥśerate / tato dīrghamekaṃ karaṇam / tasya tilonaṣaḍviṃśatyahgulā tilaśvī / catustriṃśakaṃ dvāviṃśatitilaṃ pārśvam / tāḥ pradhimūlamadhye catasraścatasro nidheyāḥ pūrvāparayoḥ prāgāyatā dakṣiṇottarayorudagāyatāḥ / pradhiśeṣeṣu saptasapteṣṭakāḥ / catasṛṇāṃ mukheṣu tisraḥ / pārśvayordvedve iti tāsāṃ catvari karaṇāni / trikoṇamādyaṃ, tasya ṣaṭtilonamaṣṭāviṃśatyaṅgulamekaṃ phalakaṃ / ṣaṭtriṃśakam saptatilonaṃ dvitīyam / tryaṃśonitaṃ ṣaṭcatvāriṃśadaṅgulaṃ tṛtīyaṃ karṇarūpaṃ, taddhanuriva takṣet, yathādhyardhāṅguliḥśaro bhavet / dvidīyasya ṣaṭtilonamaṣṭāviṃśakamekaṃ tilyakphalakam / tryaṃśonacatuśvatvāriṃśadaṅgulamanyat / saptatilaṃ ṣaṭtriṃśakamekaṃ pārśvam / sāṣṭādaśatilaṃ navatriṃśakaṃ pārśvāntaram / taddhanuriva takṣet, yathā sa catustilāṅguliḥśaraḥ / tṛtīyasya satilaṃ navakamekaṃ tiryakphalakamekam / satilaṃ ṣoḍaśāhgulamanyat / dvādaśatilonaṃ pañcatriṃśadaṅgulamekaṃ pārśvaṃ dvādaśatilayuktaṃ pañcatriṃśakaṃ pārśvāntaram, taddhanuriva takṣet / triṃśattilāḥśaraḥ / caturthasya satile ṣoḍaśike tiraśvayau pārśve ca daśatilonepañcatriṃśake / ephaṃ pārśvaṃ dhanuriva takṣet / ekānnatriṃśattilāḥśaraḥ / eṣā iṣṭakā pradhimadhye sthāpyā, abhitastisrastisraḥ pūrvoktāḥ kramotkrameṇa / evaṃ maṇḍalakṣetre aṣṭāśītiśatamiṣṭakā bhavanti /
tato'parapradhermadhyāstisra uddhṛtyatsarvagre nidadhyāt / tsaruśeṣe dvādaśa dīrgheṣṭakāḥ / dviśataḥ prastāraḥ / evamevāparaḥ prastāraḥ / caturaśrasraktayastu mahādikṣu bhavanti / tsaruṇastvanye dve karaṇe / tatraikasya tilone ṣaḍviṃśatyaṅgule tilyakphalake / catvāriṃśadaṅgule tryaṃśe pārśvai / ekākṣṇayārajhjustricatvāriṃśadaṅgulā ṣaṭtilayuktā / anyā tvekapañcāśadahgulā sadaśatilā / ekaṃ pārśvaphalakaṃ dhanuriva takṣet / sa catustilāṅguliḥśaraḥ / anyadapi pārśvamevameva / antaśvāpaṃ tu bhavati yathaivamiṣṭakārūpaṃ, etā iṣṭakāḥtsarupārśvayoścatasraścatasra udagāyatāḥ / athānyattilonaṣaḍviṃśakaṃ samacaturaśraṃ tasyaikaṃ tilyakphalaṃ dhanuriva takṣet yathā ṣoḍaśatilāḥśaro bhavati / evamevānyattiryakphalakaṃ. antaśvāvīṃ tu bhavati / yathaivamiṣṭakāḥtsarumadhye etāścatasraḥ prastāro dviśataḥ /
