The Sanskrit edition of the Apastamba Sulba-sutra with the commentaries of Kapardin, Karavinda and Sundararaja. The Sulbasutras are considered Vedic appendices and deals with the ancient Indian science of Mathematics and Geometry, by instructing the construction of fire-altars, among others. Original titles: Āpastambaśulbasūtra (आपस्तम्बशुल्बसूत्र), Kapardin (कपर्दिन्), Karavinda (करविन्द), Sundararāja (सुन्दरराज)

dvistāvā vedir bhavatīty aśvamedhe vijñāyate || ĀpŚus_5.10 ||

kasya dvistāvā? saumikyāḥ prakṛtatvātprakṛtitvācca /

iti pañcamaḥkhaṇḍaḥ.

karavindīyā vyākhyā.

kṣetratṛtīyagrahaṇaṃ na pramāṇamiti tṛtīyagrahaṇamiti kathaṃ saṃkhyāyāta ityata āha--

dakṣiṇasmādaṃsā--saṃcakṣīta.

vedyā dakṣiṇasmādaṃsādārabhya dvādaśasu dakṣiṇasyāṃ śroṇyāṃ lekhā nipātayedrajjuṃ tāṃ nipātya tabdahiśchindyāt / lekhāyā bahirbhūtaṃ chedaṃ viparyasya--viparyāsaṃ kṛtvā itarataḥ--itarasmāt pārśve sthāpayedevaṃ saptaviṃśativistārā ṣaṭtriṃśadāyatā dīrghacaturaśrā vedirbhavati, tathā yuktāṃ tathā bhūtāṃ gaṇayet / etena viṣamacaturaśrāṇāṃ saṃkhyānaprakāro veditavyaḥ /

vediprasaṅgādvikārā ucyante--

(saumikyā vijñāyate.)

sutrāmadaivatyā sautrāmaṇī, tasyā veditṛtīye yajeta iti śrūyate /
vedyāstṛtīyo deśaḥ veditṛtīyadeśaḥ, sa kasyāḥ, saumikyāḥ, kimodanaṃ śālīnāṃ saktvāḍhakaparimitānāmiti vat //

prakramatṛtīyakaraṇī vyākhyātā prakramāsthānīyā bhavati / "sthānāntādvibhāṣā' ityādinā svārthe chapratyayaḥ / tathā ṣaṭtriṃśatikāyāmityādinā kaumikavadvimānaṃ trikaraṇī coktā, aṣṭikādaśike tiryaṅbhānyā dvādaśikā pṛṣṭhayā tatpakṣe aṣṭapramāṇā purastāta tiryak, daśapramāṇā paścāttiryak, dvādaśāyāmaḥ dvādaśikāyāṃ ṣaḍupasamasya catusṛṣu pañcasu lakṣaṇaṃ pañcasu śroṇyā catasṛṣvaṃsau / veditṛtīyatvaṃ kṣetrata ityāha- (triṇi caturviṃśāni padaśatāni sautrāmaṇikī vodiḥ.)

caturviṃśatyadhikāni trīṇi śatāni sautrāmaṇikī vediḥ / dakṣiṇasmādaṃsādityādi saumikavat / prakramasya tṛtīyakaraṇīti darśanāt, atrāpi padaprakramau vikalpitau / prakamaśabdenopakramya padaśabdenopasaṃhārādanyatrāpyaṣṭāsu prakrameṣvityādiṣu padenāpi vimānaṃ labhyata iti sūcitam /

ddhistāvā vedirbhavatītyaśvamedhe vijñāyate.)

prakṛtatvāt prakṛtitvācca saumikyā eva dvistāvā--dviguṇā vediraśvamedhe bhavati, paśugaṇasaṃbandhādyūpānāṃ codakaprāptarathākṣamātrāntarālatā pratyakṣavihitadvistāvavacanāt bādhyate / ato'trayathā saṃbhavāntarālā eva ekaviṃśatiyūpāḥ / tristāvānnītvā tripadakramaḥ dvistāvā / yūpaikādaśinī pakṣe vedivivṛddhirbhavatītyeva /

sundararājīyā vyākhyā.

saṃkhyānopāyamāha----

(dakṣiṇasmādaṃasaṃcakṣīta.)

dakṣiṇasmādaṃsādārabhyāparānte pṛṣṭhacāyā dakṣiṇato dvādaśasu rajjuṃ nipātayet / taddakṣiṇataśchedaṃ dīrghaṃ trikoṇaṃ manasā viparyasya uttarapārśva upadadhayāt, ṣaṭtriṃśitprācikā saptaviṃśativyāsā dīrghacaturaśrā bhavati, tathābhūtāṃ gaṇayet / saptaviṃśatiṣaṭtriṃśatoḥsaṃvarge kṛte nava śatāni dvisaptatiś ca bhavanti /

(saumikyā bhavati.)

prakramāgrahaṇaṃ padasyāpyupalakṣaṇam, evaṃ padaśatānīti pada grahaṇaṃ prakramasyopalakṣaṇamiti śeṣaḥ //

daśāṅgulapadasya trikaraṇī saptadaśāṅgulayaḥ ekādaśa tilāś ca aṃ? 7 ti 11 dvādaśā ṅgulasya viṃśatyaṅgulayaḥ saptaviṃśatitirāś ca aṃ 20 ti 27 pañcadaśāṅgulasya tilonaṣaḍviṃśatiraṅgulayaḥ /
evaṃ prakramāṇāmapi draṣṭavyam //

kāṭhakāgnīnāmapyeṣā /

dvistāvā vedirbhavatatyiśvamedhe vijñāyate
