The Buddha Carita (Saddharma-pundarika) by Asvaghosa a famous Sanskrit text revolving around the live and exploits of the Buddha. The Buddha Carita (Buddhacarita) is written in the style of a Kavya (or Mahakavya, epic poetry) and extant original Sanskrit text consists of roughly 1,000 metrical verses.

Verse 9.52

कः कण्टकस्य प्रकरोति तैक्ष्ण्यं विचित्रभावं मृगपक्षिणां वा ।
स्वभावतः सर्वमिदं प्रवृत्तं न कामकारो ऽस्ति कुतः प्रयत्नः ॥ ५२ ॥

kaḥ kaṇṭakasya prakaroti taikṣṇyaṃ vicitrabhāvaṃ mṛgapakṣiṇāṃ vā |
svabhāvataḥ sarvamidaṃ pravṛttaṃ na kāmakāro 'sti kutaḥ prayatnaḥ || 52 ||

'Who causes the sharpness of the thorn? or the various natures of beasts and birds? All this has arisen spontaneously; there is no acting from desire, how then can there be such a thing as will?
