This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.
Verse 53.27
सो अवच हन्यमानो केनास्मि अदूषको पिता माता ।
एकेषुणा त्रयो हता संप्रज्वलितो पुन अधर्मो ॥ २७ ॥
so avaca hanyamāno kenāsmi adūṣako pitā mātā |
ekeṣuṇā trayo hatā saṃprajvalito puna adharmo || 27 ||
And when he was struck he cried out, “By whom am I, inoffensive as I am, and my mother and father, all three of us, thus struck by one arrow? Again does injustice blaze forth. (27)
