This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 33.17

उदज्यतु जनपदो स्फीतं राष्ट्रं विनश्यतु ।
न तु एवं मृगराजस्य वरं दत्त्वा मृषं भणे ॥ १७ ॥

udajyatu janapado sphītaṃ rāṣṭraṃ vinaśyatu |
na tu evaṃ mṛgarājasya varaṃ dattvā mṛṣaṃ bhaṇe || 17 ||

“Let the land be despoiled and this rich realm ruined. I will not call it a wrong that I have given this boon to the king of deer.” (17)
