The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 7.46.17

तदेतद्भोगवैतृष्ण्यं ध्यानमङ्कुरितं हि तत् ।
तदेव पीठबन्धेन बद्धं भवति बन्धुरम् ॥ १७ ॥

tadetadbhogavaitṛṣṇyaṃ dhyānamaṅkuritaṃ hi tat |
tadeva pīṭhabandhena baddhaṃ bhavati bandhuram || 17 ||

It is therefore the distaste to worldly enjoyments, that is the germ of meditation, while it is the taste for such pleasures, which binds a man fast to it.
