The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 7.8.17

भूतशारपरावर्ते द्यूतेऽक्षाः शशिभानवः ।
व्योमाजिरे जगद्भासपणे गृहनिवासिनाम् ॥ १७ ॥

bhūtaśāraparāvarte dyūte'kṣāḥ śaśibhānavaḥ |
vyomājire jagadbhāsapaṇe gṛhanivāsinām || 17 ||

Here all living creatures and the sun and moon, are moving about as the dice and king and queen on the chessboard; and the appearance and disappearance of the world in the arena of vacuum, are as the gain or loss in the chess play of the gods.
