The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

अभ्यासयत्नौ प्रथमं मुख्यो विधिरुदाहृतः ।
तदभावे तु गौणः स्यात्पूज्यपूजामयक्रमः ॥ २१ ॥

abhyāsayatnau prathamaṃ mukhyo vidhirudāhṛtaḥ |
tadabhāve tu gauṇaḥ syātpūjyapūjāmayakramaḥ || 21 ||

Practice and diligence are said to be steps to self-edification, and rites and ceremonies are represented as secondary courses resorted to for want of the former!
