The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 5.24.3

पुत्र युक्त्या गृहीतोऽसौ क्षणादायाति वश्यताम् ।
युक्तिं विना दहत्येष आशीविष इवोद्धतः ॥ ३ ॥

putra yuktyā gṛhīto'sau kṣaṇādāyāti vaśyatām |
yuktiṃ vinā dahatyeṣa āśīviṣa ivoddhataḥ || 3 ||

Son! It is by employment of proper means that he may be easily brought under subjection, and by neglect of which he will have the upper hand of you like the snake poison, if it is not repelled in time by means of efficacious mantras and incantations.
