The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 4.48.31

अज्ञातज्ञेयबुद्धेस्तु श्रोत्रियस्य तया तया ।
न विशश्राम चेतोऽस्य पवित्रेऽपि धरातले ॥ ३१ ॥

ajñātajñeyabuddhestu śrotriyasya tayā tayā |
na viśaśrāma ceto'sya pavitre'pi dharātale || 31 ||

But not knowing the knowable (Brahma), his mind could not find its rest in his ceremonial acts, nor found its purity on the surface of the stainless earth.
