The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

श्रीराम उवाच ।
परायाः संविदो ब्रह्मन्नेताः पर्यायवृत्तयः ।
कल्प्यमानविचित्रार्थाः कथं रूढिमुपागताः ॥ १६ ॥

parāyāḥ saṃvido brahmannetāḥ paryāyavṛttayaḥ |
kalpyamānavicitrārthāḥ kathaṃ rūḍhimupāgatāḥ || 16 ||

Rama asked said:—How is it Sir, that so many words with their different significations, were invented to express the transcendent cause of our consciousness (the mind), and heap them on the same thing for our confusion only?
