The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

अस्य देवाधिदेवस्य परस्य परमात्मनः ।
ज्ञानादेव परा सिद्धिर्न त्वनुष्ठानदुःखतः ॥ १ ॥

śrīvasiṣṭha uvāca |
asya devādhidevasya parasya paramātmanaḥ |
jñānādeva parā siddhirna tvanuṣṭhānaduḥkhataḥ || 1 ||

Vasishtha said:—It is by the knowledge of this transcendent supreme spirit and God of gods, that one may become an adept (in divine service), and not by the rigour of religious austerities and practices.
