Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. प्रियेषु चरमाणं त्वां न चैवाप्रियकारिणम् ।
अतिथिं ब्रह्मरूपं च कथं हन्यामनागसम् ।
राक्षसं मन्यमानोऽपि यो हन्यान्नरकं व्रजेत् ॥ ३३ ॥
