Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. द्वे चापि भार्ये वैश्यस्य द्वयोरात्मास्य जायते ।
शूद्रा शूद्रस्य चाप्येका शूद्रमेव प्रजायते ॥ ८ ॥

dve cāpi bhārye vaiśyasya dvayorātmāsya jāyate |
śūdrā śūdrasya cāpyekā śūdrameva prajāyate || 8 ||
