Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. यथास्तां संमतौ राज्ञां पृथिव्यां राजसत्तमौ ।
मान्धाता चाम्बरीषश्च तथा राजन्विराजसे ॥ ३७ ॥

yathāstāṃ saṃmatau rājñāṃ pṛthivyāṃ rājasattamau |
māndhātā cāmbarīṣaśca tathā rājanvirājase || 37 ||
