Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. न हि प्रमादात्परमोऽस्ति कश्चिद्वधो नराणामिह जीवलोके ।
प्रमत्तमर्था हि नरं समन्तात्त्यजन्त्यनर्थाश्च समाविशन्ति ॥ १९ ॥
