Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. This portion also contains the Bhagavad-Gita. Alternative titles: Mahābhārata (महाभारत).

ततस्तु तं वै द्विरदं महात्मा प्रत्युद्ययौ त्वरमाणो जयाय ।
जम्भो यथा शक्रसमागमे वै नागेन्द्रमैरावणमिन्द्रवाह्यम् ॥ ११ ॥

tatastu taṃ vai dviradaṃ mahātmā pratyudyayau tvaramāṇo jayāya |
jambho yathā śakrasamāgame vai nāgendramairāvaṇamindravāhyam || 11 ||
