Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. संजय उवाच ।
युयुत्सुं तव पुत्रं तु प्राद्रवन्तं महद्बलम् ।
उलूकोऽभ्यपतत्तूर्णं तिष्ठ तिष्ठेति चाब्रवीत् ॥ १ ॥

saṃjaya uvāca |
yuyutsuṃ tava putraṃ tu prādravantaṃ mahadbalam |
ulūko'bhyapatattūrṇaṃ tiṣṭha tiṣṭheti cābravīt || 1 ||
