Cidgaganacandrika 43 [Udyama and Mahodaya], English comparative study extracted from the two available commentaries—the Divyacakorika and the Kramaprakashika. The Cidgagana-candrika is an important Tantric work belonging to the Krama system of Kashmir Shaivism. Written by Kalidasa (Shrivatsa) in 312 Sanskrit verses, it deals with the knowledge regarding both the Macrocosmic and Microcosmic phenomena

उद्यमः प्रथम ऊर्मिरुत्तरो निस्तरङ्गशिवचित्पयोनिधेः ।
प्रागचित्पदपरिग्रहात्तव व्योमनीश्वरि तनुर्महोदयः ॥ ४३ ॥udyamaḥ prathama ūrmiruttaro nistaraṅgaśivacitpayonidheḥ |
prāgacitpadaparigrahāttava vyomanīśvari tanurmahodayaḥ || 43 ||
Comparative analysis of commentaries and excerpts in English:
In the waveless ocean of Śiva’s desire, or waveless ocean of pure knowledge, the first wave is known as Udyama (attempt). The second wave in the Cidguhā, the cave of the heart, known as festive body (Mahodaya) is born to enjoy the world through bhoga; or renounce the world through yoga before the Jīva or Īśvara takes birth or reveals through guṇās. This refers both to Īśvara and Jīva as well.[1]
Ūrmitraya unfolds from Ambā in union with Śiva.
The first wave arising from the calm ocean Śiva, is Udyama: (effort), i.e Icchāśakti—the Prathamaspanda. The second one is the Jñānaśakti. This rises in the Cidākāsa and called the Mahodaya—the great emergence. The third one is the Kriyāśakti which is creator of universe—the Acit. These three are the prime waves[2] that set forth the pace of evolution of the universe by Ambā in union with Śiva.
