The Sanskrit edition of the Apastamba Sulba-sutra with the commentaries of Kapardin, Karavinda and Sundararaja. The Sulbasutras are considered Vedic appendices and deals with the ancient Indian science of Mathematics and Geometry, by instructing the construction of fire-altars, among others. Sutra 2.3
tṛtīyakaraṇyetena vyākhyātā | vibhāgastu navadhā || ĀpŚus_2.3 ||
etenaiva mārgeṇa tṛtīyakaraṇī vyākhyātā / anayaiva trikaraṇyā tṛtīyakaraṇyapyavagantuṃ śakyetyarthaḥ / kathamityāha--trikaraṇīkṣetraṃ navadhā vibhajya ekaṃ bhāgaṃ gṛhṇīyāt / pramāṇatṛtīyaṃ bhavati / trikaraṇyāḥ tṛtīyaṃ karoti / tatra ślokaḥ--
akṣṇārajjustrikṛtproktā pramāṇasaviśeṣayoḥ /
asyā eva tṛtīyaṃ tu tṛtīyakaraṇīṃ viduḥ //
pramāṇadvikaraṇyakṣṇayārajjava uktaḥ /
yasya caturaśrasya praṇāṇaṃ tiryaṅbhānī dvikaraṇī pārśvamānī tasya caturaśrasyākṣṇayārajjuḥ pramāṇapārśvamānī tiryaṅbhānī kṣetrasya trikaraṇībhavati //
trikaraṇīvyākhyāne tṛtīyakaraṇyapi vyākhyātā / kathaṃ ? tṛtīyaṃ tiryāgdvikaṇyāyāmaḥ, tasyākṣṇayārajjustṛtīyakaraṇī /
(vibhāgastu navadhā) tṛtīyakaraṇyavagame iyāṃstu viśeṣaḥ / kṣetrasya navadhā vibhāgaḥ kāryaḥ, kasya kṣetrasya ? pramāṇakṣetrasya trikaraṇīkṣetrasya vā / ayamarthaḥ--yasya kṣetrasya tṛtīyakaraṇī sādhyate tat kṣetraṃ navadhā vibhajya tatrakaisya bhāgasya pārśvamānīṃ tiryaṅbhānīṃ kṛtvā tasyaiva bhāgasyākṣṇayārajjuṃ pārśvamānīṃ kṛtvā tābhyāṃ caturaśre kṛte caturaśre navadhā vibhakte tatraikasya bhāgasya karaṇīpramāṇacaturaścakṣetrasya tṛtīyakaraṇī bhavati / sa ca vibhāgaḥ pramāṇakṣetratṛtīyamiti pradarśanam / etena catuṣkaraṇīcaturthakaraṇīprabhṛtīnāmapi / tathāhi--pramāṇaṃ tiryak catuṣkaraṇyāyāmastasyākṣṇayārajjuḥ pañcakaraṇī / tathā pramāṇaṃ tiryakpañjakaraṇyāyāmastasyākṣmayārajjuḥ ṣaṭkaraṇītyāti draṣṭavyam / tathāhidvikaraṇī tiryaṅbhānī trikaraṇyāyāmaḥ tasyākṣṇayārajjuḥ pañcakaraṇī / tiryaṅbhānī daśakaraṇyāyāmastasyākṣṇayārajjuḥ pañcadaśakaraṇītyādyapi draṣṭavyam / tathā turīyaṃ tiryak trikaraṇyāyāmastasyākṣṇayārajjusturīyakaraṇī / tathā pañjamaṃ tiryakcatuṣkaraṇyāyāmastasyākṣṇayārajjuḥ pañcamakaraṇītyādi draṣṭavyam / trikaraṇītṛtīyakaraṇyoḥsautrāmaṇyādāvupayāgeḥ / nanu dīrghasyākṣṇayārajjurityanena trikaraṇītṛtīyakaraṇīprabhṛtayaḥ siddhāḥ / tatkimarthaṃ trikaraṇyādikaraṇīvidhirārabhyate / ucyate--dviprakārāḥ karaṇyaḥ, śuddhamūlā aśuddhamūlāś ca / śuddhaṃ mūlaṃ yāsāṃ tāḥśuddhamūlāḥ / dvābhyāṃ catvāri, tribhirnavetyādivakṣyamāṇāśvatuṣkaraṇīnavakaraṇīprabhṛtayaḥ tāsāṃ tu sarvadā dvikaraṇī trikaraṇī pañcakaraṇītyeva vyapadeśa iti pradarśayitumidamucyate, dvayoḥ karaṇī dvikaraṇī, trayāṇāṃ karaṇī trikaraṇī, caturṇāṃ karaṇī catuṣkaraṇī, pañcānāṃ karaṇī pañcakaraṇīti / kiñca dīrghasyākṣṇayārajjurityanena sāmānyena nāñjasā trikaraṇīprabhṛtīnāmavagatirbhavati / uktaprakāreṇa saṃpannānāṃ karaṇīnāṃ tena saṃvādamātraṃ bhavati / tadyujyata eva dvikaraṇyādikaraṇīviśeṣavidhyārambhaḥ /
yathā dvādaśāṅgulā tiryaṅbhānī taddvikaraṇī tironasatpadaśāṅgulā pārśvamānī /
evaṃ dīrghacaturaśre kṛte tasyākṣṇayārajjurviṃśatyaṅgulayaḥsatpaviṃśatitilāś ca /
sā trikaraṇī pramāṇaparimitaṃ kṣetraṃ triguṇaṃ karoti //
tṛtīyakaraṇyā caturaśre kṛte navadhā vibhāgaḥ kāryaḥ /
tasyaiko bhāgaḥ pramāṇakṣetrasya tṛtīyaṃ bhavati /
trikaraṇyāstṛtīyaṃ tasya karaṇī //
