The Sanskrit edition of the Apastamba Sulba-sutra with the commentaries of Kapardin, Karavinda and Sundararaja. The Sulbasutras are considered Vedic appendices and deals with the ancient Indian science of Mathematics and Geometry, by instructing the construction of fire-altars, among others. tannimitto nirhrāso vivṛddhirvā || Sūtra _1.2e ||

nimittaṃ karaṇaṃ prakṛtiḥ iti paryāyāḥ / tadeva nirañjanārthaṃ yasya sa tannimittaḥ / nirhrāsaḥ tiryaṅbhānyāḥ / vṛdvirvā tiryaṅbhānyā eva / kimuktaṃ bhavati? uktena mārgeṇa prāgāyatāḥ tiryagāyatāḥsamāścaturaśrāḥ kṛtā ityarthaḥ /

taditi samādhirheturviharaṇamucyate--nimittaṃ kāraṇaṃ heturiti paryāyāḥ, nirhrāso'pacayaḥ, vivṛddhirupacayaḥ, tau tannimittau syātāṃ, lāghavārthamidamucyate, mahati caturaśre vihṛte tadekadeśabhūtaṃ caturaśraṃ saṃpādīyatumicchan mahataścaturaśrasya śroṇyaṃsādisaṃsthita śaṅkvanirūpamabimata pradeśeṣu śaṅkūnnihatya śaṅkuṣu rajjuṃ prabaddhaca yāvadabhimataṃ prasārya tābhiralpaṃ caturaśraṃ sampādayet, vivṛddhau caturaśrapārśvamānyādibhiryāvadabhimatā dīrgharajjūḥ prabaddhya tāstatkūṭasaṃsthitaśaṅkvanurūpāḥ prasāryābhimatapradeśeṣu śaṅkuṃ nihatya tadantaraṃ gṛhṇīyāt, pṛṣṭhyāyāṃ karaṇīṣu cābhimatapradeśeṣu śaṅkuṃ nihatya tadanurūpāṇi nimittāntarāṇi kṛtvā rajjuḥ prasārya kṣetrasyāpacayamupacayaṃ kuryādityarthaḥ / nirhrāsodāharaṇaṃ mahāvedyuttaravedidhiṣṇyādayaḥ / vivṛdbhuyadāharaṇaṃ mahāvedyādayaḥ /

sundararājīyā

abhīṣṭakṣetrāyāmasaṃmitā rajjuḥ pramāṇam / sarvamāneṣūbhayataḥpāśā prācī / pūrvāparayoḥśaṅkvorniyatā bhavati / saiva pṛṣṭhabhavatvāt pṛṣṭhyetyapi vyapadiśyate / tadyāvadāyāmaṃ tāvadāyāme śulbāntare tasyārdhamabhyasyopari prakṣiṇya antayoḥ pāśau kuryāt / tatra trīṇi pramāṇārdhani bhavanti / teṣāmaparabhāgabhāvitṛtīyamardhdhaṃ ṣoḍhā mbhujya pāśādārabhya pañcasu bhāgeṣviti teṣu lakṣaṇaṃ kuryāt / asya śulbasyāntau pṛṣṭhyāntayorniyamya kṛtena lakṣaṇena dakṣiṇā prasārya nimittaṃ karoti śaṅkuṃ nihanti / evamuttarataḥ pāśau viparyasya pūrvānte'pyevaṃ śaṅkum / sa samādhiḥ sa eko vihārayogaḥ / asyodāharaṇam--

"ṣaṭtriṃśikāyāmaṣṭādaśe' tyādi / evaṃ kṛte yadi tiryaṅbhānyā nirhrāso vivṛddhirveṣyate so'pi tannimittaḥ / ye dakṣiṇottarā nimittabhūtāḥśaṅkavaḥ tāneva cihnīkṛtya kartavyāḥ /

nirhrāsasyodāharaṇam--"pañcadaśikenaikāpāyamyārdhena tataḥ' ityādi / pracī tu sarvatra lokala eva grāhyā / tatra bodhāyanaḥ "kṛttikāḥ khalvimāḥ prācīṃ na jahati kadācana / tāsāṃ sandarśanena māpayedityekam / śroṇāsandarśanenamāpayedityekam /

citrāsvātyorantarālena māpayedityaparaṃ' iti /
etani lakṣaṇāni deśaviseṣetu vyavatiṣṭhante, sarvadeśasādhāraṇaṃ lakṣaṇamāha kātyāyanaḥ "same kṣetre śaṅkuṃ nikhāya śaṅkusaṃmitayā rajjvā maṇḍalaṃ parilikhya yatra lekhayoḥśaṅkvagracchāyā nipatati prācī' iti /

maṇḍalarekhayāḥ pūrvāpara bhāgayorityarthaḥ //
