The Sanskrit edition of the Apastamba Sulba-sutra with the commentaries of Kapardin, Karavinda and Sundararaja. The Sulbasutras are considered Vedic appendices and deals with the ancient Indian science of Mathematics and Geometry, by instructing the construction of fire-altars, among others. evamudagapasārya pūrvavatkuryāt / viparyasyetarataḥ pūrvesmācchaṅkāḥ pāśamunmucyāparasmin śakṅau pratimuñcet / aparasmāc chaṅkāḥ pāśamunmucya pūrvasminpratimuñcet / sa viparyāsaḥ / taṃ kṛtvetarataḥ aṃsau tenaiva prathamakṛtena ṣaḍbhāgonena lakṣaṇena dakṣiṇamaṃsaṃ udagapasāryottaramaṃsamiti sa samādhiḥ / uktena mārgaviśeṣeṇāpāditāḥ pārśvamānyādaya iti samādhiḥ /
evamuttarato'pi vikṛṣya rajjuṃ nimittaṃ kuryāt, viparyāso rajjvantayoḥ pūrvaṃ pāśaṃ paścime śakṅau paścimaṃ ca pūrvasmin kṛtvā itarataḥ kṛtanimittāt pradeśādanyatra tatra ca dakṣiṇata uttarataś ca vikṛṣya nimitte kuryāt / etaduktaṃ bhavati--ayāmārthaṃ pramāṇe prakṣipya prakṣiptaṃ ṣoḍhā vibhajya tasmin antādārabhya pañcasu bhogeṣvatīteṣu lakṣaṇasyāntau pāśau kṛtvā pṛṣṭhyāntayoḥśaṅkuṃ nikāya tayoḥ pratimucya lakṣaṇena dakṣiṇāpāyamya śaṅkuṃ kuryāt, uttarato'pyevameva vikṛṣya śaṅkuṃ kuryāt, rajjvantau viparyasyetarasminnapi pradeśe śaṅkudvayaṃ kuryaditi, nanu aparagrahaṇaṃ pūrvatṛtīye lakṣaṇavyāvṛcyarthaṃ kiṃ na syāt, tatrāpi tasyāvirodhādeva na syāt / tarhi madhayamatṛtīyaṃ vyākartya pūrvāparayoḥ pradarśanārthaṃ bhaviṣyatīti cennaitatyadyevamiṣṭamabhaviṣyattarhi spaṣṭataraṃmadhyame tṛtīya ityevāvakṣyat, na cāsau tattathoktavān / atha manyase? tadarthamabhayasyāparasminn ityukte'bhyāsādanyat, pramāṇamaparaṃ pratīyate, sāmarthyāttatra tṛtīye lakṣaṇaṃ bhavatviti, naitadapi yuktaṃ--yadayamāgantvāyāmābhyāsaḥ iti
āgantvavayavasyākṣṇayārajjuśeṣatāṃ vakṣyati / pahāvedimāne ca ṣaṭātriṃśikāyāmaṣṭādaśopa śamasyetyādau pañcadaśikenaivāpāyamya śroṇyaṃsānāṃ viharaṇaṃ vakṣyāti, tenātrābhyāsāganturevāparaḥ, tatra ṣaḍbhāgone nirañjanamiti vijñāyate /
nanu yadyāgantuparo'paraśabdaḥ tarhi ṣaḍbhāgone lakṣaṇamityetāvadevālaṃ, kimarthaḥ
tṛtīyaśabdaḥ, naivāsya prayojanaṃ paśyāmaḥ, ucyate--astyevāsya prayojanaṃ, kuṃ tat, atrocyamā naviharaṇasya sarvābhyāsaviṣayatvakhyāpanārthaṃ, tatkathaṃ, atra tāvadācāryeṇa sarvajñena sarvānugrahakāriṇā prayuktasyākṣarāvayavasyāpi nānarthakatā yuktā, kiṃ punaḥ padasya / ato mukhyayā vṛcyā yathā śabdor'thavān bhavati tathā vyākhyeyaḥ /
ata evāyaṃ śabda evaṃ vyākhyāyate--āgantusamānādhikaraṇībhūtatṛtīyaśabdasyāvayavabhūtatriśabdavācyena tritvena sābhyāsasya pramāṇasyāgantuparimitā yāvanto bhāgāḥsaṃbhavanti tāvatāṃ bhāgānāṃ sakhṅyā lakṣyate, tathā--ṣaḍbāgaśabdāvayavabhūtaṣaṭachabdavācyena ca ṣaṭtvena tadanurūpatvāya tritvalakṣitasakhṅyādviguṇībhūtābhāgasaṃkhṅyā lakṣyate / etenāyamarthaḥsaṃpadyate-- sarveṣvabhyāseṣu sābhyāsasya pramāṇasyāgantuparimitā yāvanto bhāgāḥsampadyante tāvaddviguṇabhāgamāgantuṃ kṛtvā tasmin bhāgenaikena hīne lakṣaṇakaraṇamiti /
tadyathā--ardhābhyāse tāvadardhameko bhāgaḥ, pramāṇantu tattulyau bhāgau, adaḥsābhyāsasya pramāṇasyāgantutulyāstrayo bhāgāḥ, āgantau taddviguṇacchede tasya ṣaḍbhāgāḥ, tatra bhāgenaikena hīne lakṣaṇam, tathā āyāmābhyāse āyāma eko bhāgaḥ, ca tatsadṛśa eko bhāgaḥ / tena sābhyāsasya pramāṇāsya dvau bhāgau taddviguṇacchede abhyāse catvāro bhāgāḥ / tatra caturbhāgone lakṣaṇam / tathā--tṛtīyābhyāse abhyāsa eko bhāgaḥ, pramāṇaṃ tattulyāstrayo bhāgāḥ, dviguṇacchede'bhyāse'ṣṭau bāgāḥ, tatrāṣṭabhāgone lakṣaṇam, evameva turīyādyabhyāse'ṣṭau pramāṇasyābhyāsavaśenaiva bhāgakalpanam, āgantau taddviguṇasakhṅyayā bhāgaka lpanam, bhāgone lakṣaṇaṃ ca draṣṭavyam / nanu yatrābhyāse'bhyāsatulyatā pramāṇasya na sambhavati kathaṃ tatra pramāṇe cāgantau ca bāgakalpanaṃ lakṣaṇaṃ ca, yathādhikābhyāse chedanaṃ nyūnābhyase ca ?
ucyate--tatrāpyayameva prakāraḥ, kintu sābhyāsaṃ pramāṇamaṃśena ca sadṛśacchedaṃ kṛtvā āgantum api chedasakhṅyādviguṇasakhṅyayā chedaṃ kṛtvā tatra yāvadbhir aṃśairhīnaireko bhāgo hīno bhavati tāvadbhiraṃśairnyūne'bhyāse nihañjanaṃ kuryāt, adhikābhyāse tāvaddviguṇābhyāse'bhyāsa eko bhāgaḥ, pramāṇaṃ bhāgārthaṃ, tatrārdhena ca sadṛśacchede sābhyāse pramāṇe trayor'dhacchedāḥ, tatsakhṅyādviguṇacchede tatra ṣaḍardhacchedāḥ, teṣu dvābhyāmūnābhyāmeko bhāgo hīyata iti taḍhūne lakṣaṇaṃ syāt /
triguṇābhyāse'bhyāsa eko bhāgaḥ, pramāṇaṃ tu tṛtīyāṃśakaḥ, tatsadṛśā abhyāse trayastṛtīyāṃ śakāḥ, tena sābhyāsasya pramāṇasya catvārastṛtīyāṃśāḥ, taddviguṇacchede āgantāvaṣṭau tṛtīyāśāḥ, tatra tribhiraṃśairūne lakṣaṇam / evaṃ caturguṇābhyāseṣu bhāgānunnīya tadanuṃrūpamā gantau lakṣaṇaṃ kuryāt / tathā tripādābhyāse'bhyāsa eko bhāgaḥ, pramāṇaṃ tatsadṛśa eko bhāgastṛtīyāṃśaśva, aṃśena ca sadṛśacchede sābhyāsapramāṇe sapta tṛtīyāṃśāḥ, taistribhirūne tatra lakṣaṇam / evam evānyeṣvapi sāṃśacchedeṣu bhāgakalpanaṃ lakṣaṇaṃ ca draṣṭavyam / etadapi na vismartavyaṃ sarveṣvabhyāseṣvāgantubhāgaikyaṃ tadvaśenana pramāṇe bhāgaukyaṃ bhāgānekatvaṃ kevalāṃ śatvaṃ ceti, evamasya viharaṇasya sarvābhyāsaviṣayatvamavagantavyam / yadyevam upapadyate, kuto jñāyate nyāyo'ṅgaīkṛta iti, ucyate--āgantucaturthamāyāmaśvākṣṇayārajjuriti āyāmābhyāso'bhyāsacaturthasyākṣṇayārajjuviśeṣatvapratipādanādardhābhyāsāyāmābhyāṃ siddhasya pañcadaśikāṣṭikayoḥsaptadaśikākṣṇayārajjurityāderviṣamābhyāsopanyāsācca jñāyate nyāyo'yamaṅgīkṛta ityalamatirthaṃ, tiryaṅbhānyakṣṇayārajjuvivekārthaṃ ca, dakṣiṇottaragrahaṇaṃ kimarthaṃ, pradarśanārthaṃ tiraśvyāḥ, itarathā sadaḥprabhṛtiṣu virodhāt /
asya viharamasyānte'nyasya pratipādanāyāhasa samādhiḥ /
dvipadamidam /
tacchabdena viharaṇamucyate, samādhyābhiprāyaḥ puṃlliṅganirdeśaḥ, saṃśabdaḥ samyagarthe samaśabdārthe vā, āṅ samantatobhāve, dadhātiḥ karotyarthe samaśabdārthe vā, āṅ samantatobhāve, dadhātiḥ karotyarthe, samyaganyūnānatiriktaṃ kṣetraṃ samantādāpādayatīti samādhiḥ, yadvā--samānānāmādhiḥ samādhiḥ /
pārśvamānyau tiryaṅbhānyau akṣṇayārajjuś ca parasparamanyonyasamāḥsaṃpādayatīti, caturdikṣu samaṃ kṣetramāpādayatīti samādhiḥ, ayamarthaḥ--
vimīyamānakṣetrasyānyunānatirekitvenāvasthānaṃ samādhānam, tacca samyagupāyasya viharaṇasya phalam, taddhetutvādviharaṇasya, hetuphalayorabhedopacāreṇa tadeva viharaṇaṃ samādhirityucyate, yoga iti ceti, kimarthamidamucyate? śrotṝṇāṃ pratipattiprarocanārthaṃ, yadedadṛktaṃ viharaṇaṃ sa samādhiḥ, samīcaḥ śroṇyaṃsān saṃpādayati tasmādidaṃ niḥsaṃdigdamanena vihartavyamiti //
