Mahavastu [sanskrit verses and english]

by Émile Senart | 1882 | 56,574 words

This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 74.5

तन् मे संज्ञा न रमेति मौद्गल्यायन न मे रती ।
विपुला प्रतिमा चैव भाविता मतिया रतिः ॥ ५ ॥

tan me saṃjñā na rameti maudgalyāyana na me ratī |
vipulā pratimā caiva bhāvitā matiyā ratiḥ || 5 ||

So it is, Maudgalyayana, that the awareness of these things delights me not, and I have no joy therein. It is profound reflection exercised in my mind that gives me joy. (5)
