by Émile Senart | 1882 | 56,574 words

This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 64.473

ततो च्युतः कालगतो मानुषं लोकम् आगतो ।
जात्यन्धो भोति दुर्मेधो दृष्टचित्तो असंवृतो ॥ ४७३ ॥

tato cyutaḥ kālagato mānuṣaṃ lokam āgato |
jātyandho bhoti durmedho dṛṣṭacitto asaṃvṛto || 473 ||

Passing thence, again, when his time is done, and coming to the world of men, he is blind from birth, witless, mad and insane. (473)
