The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 7.104.1

श्रीवसिष्ठ उवाच ।
आकाशः शब्दतन्मात्रं स्पर्शतन्मात्रकोऽनिलः ।
तत्सङ्गोत्कर्षजं तेजस्तच्छान्तिश्चेत्यपां स्थितिः ॥ १ ॥

śrīvasiṣṭha uvāca |
ākāśaḥ śabdatanmātraṃ sparśatanmātrako'nilaḥ |
tatsaṅgotkarṣajaṃ tejastacchāntiścetyapāṃ sthitiḥ || 1 ||

Vasishtha continued:—The sky is the receptacle of sound, and the air is perceptible to the feeling; their friction produces the heat, and the subsidence or removal of heat, causes the cold and its medium of water.*
