The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 4.35.18

मनसोऽभ्युदयो नाशो मनोनाशो महोदयः ।
ज्ञमनो नाशमभ्येति मनोऽज्ञस्य विवर्धते ॥ १८ ॥

manaso'bhyudayo nāśo manonāśo mahodayaḥ |
jñamano nāśamabhyeti mano'jñasya vivardhate || 18 ||

The elevation of the mind in worldly affairs, tends to its destruction, and its depression in these leads to its spiritual elevation. The wise always lower their minds (pride); but fools are for elevating them.
