The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

अन्धकारप्रवृत्तेन मषीपङ्कार्णवोपमम् ।
कज्जलाचलसंभारोद्भूतकल्पानिलैरिव ॥ ४१ ॥

andhakārapravṛttena maṣīpaṅkārṇavopamam |
kajjalācalasaṃbhārodbhūtakalpānilairiva || 41 ||

The overspreading darkness appeared as a sea of ink or dark quagmire, or as the particles of Anjanagiri (Inky mountain) wafted by the breeze over the face of nature.
