223,437 words | ISBN-10: 8171101519

The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 1.18.2

अज्ञोऽपि तज्ज्ञसदृशो वलितात्मचमत्कृतिः ।
युक्त्या भव्योऽप्यभव्योऽपि न जडो नापि चेतनः ॥ २ ॥

ajño'pi tajjñasadṛśo valitātmacamatkṛtiḥ |
yuktyā bhavyo'pyabhavyo'pi na jaḍo nāpi cetanaḥ || 2 ||

It is neither quiescent nor wholly sentient, neither ignorant nor quite intelligent. Its inherent soul is a wonder, and it is reason (and its absence) that makes it graceful or otherwise.
