Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. गर्हयन्नेव रामस्तु त्वरितस्तं समासदत् ।
अपि जीवति वैदेही नेति पश्यामि लक्ष्मण ॥ १३ ॥

garhayanneva rāmastu tvaritastaṃ samāsadat |
api jīvati vaidehī neti paśyāmi lakṣmaṇa || 13 ||
