Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. अस्या नूनं विशालाक्ष्याः सदेवासुरमानुषम् ।
लोकं निर्मथ्य धात्रेदं रूपमाविष्कृतं कृतम् ॥ ३० ॥

asyā nūnaṃ viśālākṣyāḥ sadevāsuramānuṣam |
lokaṃ nirmathya dhātredaṃ rūpamāviṣkṛtaṃ kṛtam || 30 ||
